• eMerchantPay has received authorisation from the FCA to issue pay-outs, e-wallets and prepaid cards in the UK. It has also joined the Prepaid International Forum
  • Mastercard may face further legal action on interchange fees. Walter Merricks, the man leading a £14bn class action lawsuit, has lodged an appeal against a tribunal’s decision to dismiss the claim. MasterCard has been asked to respond by 8 September 2017
  • Apple has added new banks and credit unions across the UK, US, Australia, Russia and China to its list of participating partners for Apple Pay, the second expansion of the service in the space of a month. In the UK, Cumberland Building Society is now supported. Apple also announced some new features, including Person to Person and Apple Pay Cash, which will be launched later this year
  • Barclaycard has launched a pilot that enables UK retailers to accept in-store Alipay transactions. The service has been rolled out to eight retail stores across the UK, with a roll-out to more outlets expected soon. The pilot will run until 2018
  • Cardtronics has partnered with CashDash to enable travellers to transfer foreign currency to an e-wallet and make cardless cash withdrawals in pounds at 1,000 Cashzone ATMs in London
  • Worldpay has reported that UK mobile contactless payments rose 336% year-on-year to £370m in H1 2017
