Square’s debit card, Plastc is bust, Mastercard’s fingerprint sensor and Flux’s trials in Cards this week

- Square is reportedly planning to launch a physical Square Cash debit card. Its virtual Square Cash card, which lets users make payments using their Square Cash balance anywhere Apple Pay is accepted, was launched in December 2016.
- Plastc, an all-in-one card and mobile app, has filed for bankruptcy three years after launch without delivering a single product
- MasterCard has released details of a new card featuring a fingerprint sensor, following two successful trials in South Africa. The South African trials involved employees from Pick n Pay and Absa Bank testing the potential ways convenience and security could contribute to the checkout process. A full roll-out is expected later this year, after additional trials
- Flux, a fintech start-up, has begun pilot trials of a service to convert paper till receipts to mobile data services in partnership with retail chains Eat and Bel-Air and digital challenger bank Monzo
