1.Information stored on your device
Closer saves a few things locally, using standard on-device storage. This information never leaves your phone and is never transmitted to us:
| What's stored | Why |
|---|---|
| Display name e.g. "Alex" | Used to personalize the on-screen game text. Purely cosmetic — you can set it to anything. |
| Unlocked decks & All-Access status | So the app remembers which decks you've purchased. |
| Conversation Gym progress XP, rank | So your practice progress persists between sessions. |
| Onboarding status | So you don't see the intro slides more than once. |
Deleting the app deletes this data. We have no copy of it, because it was never sent to us.
2.Game content & network requests
Closer downloads its decks, questions, and Conversation Gym scenarios from our own servers so we can update and expand content over time. These requests fetch game content only — they don't send your name, purchases, or progress. Like any request to any server, they inherently include standard technical information (such as IP address and device type) used only to deliver content and keep the service running.
3.In-app purchases
Deck unlocks and the All-Access pass are billed through Apple's In-App Purchase system. Apple handles your payment method, billing address, and transaction details directly — we never receive or store your card information. We only know whether a given purchase was completed, so we can unlock the matching content.
4.Microphone permission
Closer's app permissions include a request for microphone access, reserved for audio-based dialogue features. If and when that feature is active, any audio is used in the moment for local playback and interaction only — it is not recorded, saved, or transmitted anywhere. You can decline microphone access in your device Settings without losing access to any deck.
5.What we don't do
- No advertising. Closer has no ad network integrated, so nothing about your usage is shared with an ad partner.
- No analytics or tracking SDKs. We don't run third-party analytics, attribution, or behavioral tracking libraries.
- No accounts, no social features. There's no login, no profile visible to other users, and no way for your answers or conversations to be seen by anyone but the people in the room with you.
- No selling or sharing of personal data — because none is collected from you in the first place.
6.Children's privacy
Closer is not directed at children. Several decks (After Dark in particular) contain content intended for adults 18 and over, and the App Store age rating reflects this. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and given the app requires no account or sign-up, we do not collect personal information from any user regardless of age.
7.Changes to this policy
If Closer's data practices change — for example, if we add analytics or an account system in the future — we'll update this page and revise the date at the top. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
8.Contact
Questions about this policy or your data can go straight to the developer.
